About Trip and Hendy:

Artist and candle-maker Ben Winter standing in his Arizona home.

Ben Winter is an artist and candle-maker based in the Southwestern United States. Ever since he can remember, he has wanted to make things with his hands.

He started creating jewelry in high school, mostly by the lost-wax process. In college, he was making a living selling jewelry and was experimenting with different metal-working methods.

He continued with metal after college but focused on sand-casting, producing candleholders, various odd objects, and small sculptures. With his father and brother, he designed and produced “paper” furniture in the seventies. Together they created a wide variety of pieces for homes and offices as well as for displays in major department stores, including Macy’s and Neiman Marcus.

Moving toward a kind of Bauhaus aesthetic, he designed a car air filter lamp, selling more than 100 since 1990.

He continued with his love of fashioning found objects into other unfounded things for many years, which eventually led him to start creating custom molds for making his very own hand-poured candles. He loves adding the candle dye himself in order to get a wonderful collaboration of colors. The process gives the candles a variety of textures and details, making each one-of-a-kind. Now he is ready to share these strangely playful, artisanal candles with the world.
